Responsibilities of Ride Operators
A situation may present where the carnival area will need to be closed down or a section isolated. Such an incident may include a ride failure resulting in serious injury, fire or crowd control issue. Instruction will be issued by RAS of NSW staff, contractors and security personal.
The following procedure is the responsibility of the Ride/Game Operator and Licensee:
01. Stop the ride or game.
02. Raise the alarm: Contact security & emergency services: Dial 9704 1020
03. Ride or game lighting left on to assist an incident response unless unsafe to do so.
04. Stop music to assist with occupants hearing safety instructions being given.
05. Stop patrons from entering the ride by assigning staff to entry point.
06. Clear the entry point to create an exit and access for emergency services.
07. Evacuate the ride. Assist mobility impaired persons.
08. Search the area to ensure that all persons are accounted for.
09. Do not move casualties unless they are exposed to life-threatening situations.
10. Remain with casualties and provide appropriate support.
11. Direct patrons away from the ride.
12. Await instructions from security & emergency services.
13. Assist security & emergency services staff if requested.
14. Direct media enquiries to the RAS and keep a record of the incident
Do not restart ride until the RAS and SafeWork SA have given permission to do so. Ensure that the emergency service access lane is left clear and free of any obstruction.
